The method behind the music
I grew up here, left for nearly 20 years, and came back. In between, I studied jazz guitar at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, spent close to two decades teaching, performing, and recording in New York City, and co-founded a band whose music ended up on network TV and Netflix.
I'm back in Virginia Beach now, teaching out of Alpha Music. It's the best teaching situation I've ever had.
Most of my students are adults who play for the love of it: people in their 30s and 40s who finally have time to take lessons seriously, or who want to push past a plateau they've been stuck on. I also work with serious younger players, especially teenagers with their eye on music school, who need more than a typical lesson environment can offer.
My approach is simple: I want you to actually understand music, not just learn songs. That means developing your ear, building real music theory knowledge, and getting the technical foundation that makes everything else easier. You'll learn songs too, but they'll mean more when you know why they work.
I teach electric guitar, acoustic guitar, jazz guitar, bass, and ukulele, at all levels. If you're not sure where to start, just reach out.
